The University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) will offer a minor in creative writing beginning in fall 2016.  The option of the minor is available only to undergraduates whereas graduate students may receive a creative writing MFA. There is also a combined MFA/MA in Creative writing and literature available.

The requirements for the new creative writing minor are outlined below:

Students pursuing the minor must complete the Introduction to Creative Writing course (ENGL F270X), two of genre specific intermediate courses, and two of three specified 400 level courses. The minor requires completion of 15 credits of coursework.

With no new faculty additions and the administrative costs already shouldered by the English department, creation of the minor adds no additional cost to the UA system.

UAF is the last of the three UA system schools to adopt a minor in creative writing. Although the motion to approve the program is awaiting the chancellor’s approval, to date all motions regarding academic programs changes this year have been approved.
