Mount St. Mary’s College’s MFA in Creative Writing aims to train passionate writers who will commit to the daily practice of writing and who aspire to crafting work of publishable quality. Our program is intentionally kept small in order to permit student-writers to consult frequently with their faculty mentors. Students will also be encouraged to actively participate in a rich campus environment of creative dialogue through student readings, thesis-writing groups, the Mount literary journal Dry River Review, and off-campus events in the always vibrant area of Los Angeles.
We also believe the skill of writing is the link that connects the several liberal arts disciplines, and acts as the conduit for the personal and public expression of other humanities disciplines, such as history, English and Cultural Studies. In keeping with the liberal arts tradition of freedom and exploration, the MFA in Creative Writing provides an open, inspiring and meditative setting that helps writers focus their unique voices on the techniques and artistry of their stories.
